Net Zero Carbon 2030

The Church of England’s General Synod has set new targets for all parts of the church to work to become carbon ‘net zero’ by 2030. Meeting at York on Friday 8th July, the Synod debated the motion to endorse a Routemap, and to use it to develop net zero carbon plans locally. The motion was approved overwhelmingly.

Many people spoke in favour of the Routemap, citing the need to be bold and to take urgent action, and asking us to think also of those in other countries whose lives are already forever changed by the climate crisis.

Through the net zero offerings, your church will be able to demonstrate how you are achieving the 2030 targets, how your carbon reduction is having a positive impact on the environment, and can often reduce your outgoings by replacing conventional utility sources with ‘green’ alternatives.
